George Rose was invited to contribute through the Sea Walls Australia Festival as part of our Artist In Residence program at Bentley Park College.
George: "The Humpback Grouper, the Brindle Bass, and the Whiptail stingray are all listed as threatened and endangered on the IUCN world conservation red list, these species are at the risk of overfishing and changing habitats due to global warming changing their reef environments. The mural depicts the Humpback Grouper and the Brindle Bass facing each other as if each was watching the other passing into obscurity. The background pattern is created using the patterning detail from a Whiptail stingray. The details on each fish slowly fade into a solid colour leaving only the silhouetted shape of the fish which once was."
Sea Walls Australia is a groundbreaking public art program that brings the message of ocean conservation and environmental stewardship into streets around the country.
George Rose is a National artist from Sydney, New South Wales that was involved in the 2018 Sea Walls festival in Cairns.
